PRP

What is PRP?

PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma) is a cutting-edge regenerative treatment that uses the patient's own concentrated plasma to stimulate tissue regeneration and rejuvenation. The platelets contained in the plasma release growth factors that activate fibroblasts, promoting the production of new collagen, elastin, and endogenous hyaluronic acid. It is a 100% biological treatment, completely biocompatible and free from the risk of allergic reactions.

How does PRP work?

The procedure involves three phases: first, a small venous blood sample is drawn from the patient's arm (approximately 10-20 ml), then centrifuged with a specialized medical device to separate the platelet-rich plasma from red and white blood cells, and finally re-injected into the areas to be treated. The platelet concentration in PRP is 3-5 times higher than in normal blood, ensuring a massive release of growth factors (PDGF, TGF-β, VEGF) that activate deep regenerative processes.

Who is it suitable for?

• Skin rejuvenation of face, neck, and décolleté, to improve texture, radiance, and firmness • Hair loss and androgenetic alopecia, to stimulate dormant hair follicles and strengthen existing hair • Atrophic acne scars, surgical or post-traumatic scars, to stimulate tissue regeneration • Under-eye bags and dark circles, to improve the trophism of periocular skin • Recent and older stretch marks, to promote repair of damaged connective tissue • Hand rejuvenation, to restore tone and volume to thin, dehydrated skin

Who should avoid it?

• Blood diseases such as thrombocytopenia, coagulopathies, or myeloproliferative syndromes, which alter platelet quality • Ongoing anticoagulant or antiplatelet therapies, which may interfere with PRP efficacy and increase bruising risk • Active infections, both local in the treatment area and systemic • Active oncological conditions, due to the theoretical risk of stimulating cell growth • Pregnancy and breastfeeding, as a precautionary principle

How long does the treatment take?

The complete treatment takes 45-60 minutes, of which approximately 10-15 minutes for blood collection and centrifugation, and 20-30 minutes for the actual injection phase. It is performed entirely in the office. Recovery is immediate: slight wheals and redness at injection points may be noticed, resolving within a few hours. Avoiding intense physical activity and sauna for 24 hours afterward is recommended.

Is anesthesia required?

A topical anesthetic cream is applied 20-30 minutes before the injection phase to reduce discomfort. For the scalp, which is a more sensitive area, a local anesthetic block can be performed to ensure maximum comfort. The blood draw from the arm is a simple venipuncture, similar to a routine blood test, and requires no anesthesia.

When are results visible?

PRP results are progressive as they depend on the biological response of the tissues. Initial improvements in skin radiance and texture are visible 2-3 weeks after the first session. Optimal results are achieved after a complete cycle of 3-4 sessions spaced 3-4 weeks apart, when tissue regeneration is at its peak. For alopecia, results on hair loss are observed after 2-3 months. Maintenance sessions every 6-12 months are recommended.

Is it safe?

Yes, PRP is one of the safest treatments in aesthetic medicine. Being derived exclusively from the patient's own blood (autologous), there is no risk of allergy, rejection, or infectious disease transmission. The only possible reactions are related to the injection itself: mild bruising, transient swelling, or tenderness at injection points, which resolve spontaneously within 1-2 days. The procedure is performed under sterile conditions with certified single-use medical devices.
